Rules
The following rules apply and must be followed and agreed to by all persons who participate in the Best Dog In The World Contest:
- The contest is open to all dogs in the world and their respective owners.
- No cats are allowed to participate in this contest. We may sponsor a Best Cat in the World Contest at a later date.
- The deadline for entry is the last day of each month for monthly semi-finalists awards and Dec. 31 of each year for the annual Best Dog of the World award.
- The contest does not discriminate against any dog based upon its breed; mixed breeds and mutts will be given the same consideration as all other dogs regardless of pedigree.
- You must be the owner of a dog to enter the Best Dog In The World Contest. If there is a homeless dog or a dog in an animal shelter that you want to participate in this contest, you must first adopt that dog and provide it with a forever home before it may be considered for the Best Dog in the World award. This is because this award is only given to living dogs and animal shelters have a terrible record for killing and destroying perfectly good dogs. We would love to allow shelter dogs to be entered in the contest, but likely as not they would be killed and destroyed before any consideration might be given to them. We simply cannot consider dogs postmortum and urge everyone to visit your local humane society or animal shelter. Please find a shelter dog that bonds with you and adopt it. Then write down why your dog is the best dog in the world. Then enter your adopted dog in the Best Dog in the World contest. Who knows, you may have not only saved the life of a dog, but you may have saved the life of the Best Dog in the World!
- All dogs will be considered good dogs; if there are any vicious dogs it is their masters, owners or handlers who will be considered irresponsible owners and they may be disqualified from receipt of any prizes or property of value.
- Each person may enter up to three (3) photographs of their dogs. You may show as many dogs as you want in a single photographs. Please send a high resolution photograph of your dog(s) along with your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, the name of your dog(s), and your 300 word or less essay. Entry fees are: One Dog Photo @ $12.00; Two Dog Photos @ $24.00; or Three Dog Photos @ $36.00. Photographs may NOT show any people. To enter the contest click on the secure PayPal button below, make your payment and send your entry and essay and tell us, in 300 words or less, why your dog is the best dog in the world.
Please send your 300 word or less essay AFTER making your payment to GSDAR.
- All entries become the property of GSDAR and cannot be returned. Please keep copies of all material you send.
- All entries may be considered and may be copied, edited, reproduced, printed and/or marketed upon gift and apparel, including but not limited to T-shirts, posters, postcards, calendars, mugs, caps, framed prints or other gifts and apparel.
- Essays and dog photographs entered may be published and said publications marketed to raise funds for GSDAR.. - All entries witl be carefully reviewed and screened to be sure they qualify and are excellent photographs suitable for reproduction. Photographs of your dog and essays will be judged according to the following criteria: 3 points for the most photogenic dog as indicated by how outstanding your dog appears and expresses admirable and lovable qualities which you may help point out in your essay; 4 points for how significant a role your dog has played in your life or in the life of your family or others, as in the case of a therapy dog or other service dog as expressed in your essay; 3 points for all other merits you express and how excellantly you convey your thoughts, feelings and passion as to why your dog is the best dog in the world, such that your talents, skill and ability as a writer, poet or lover of life and dogs do play a role in which dog will be the best dog in the world, as these same personality qualities may relate to why you choose your dog in the first place -- or why it choose you.
- Our panel of distinguished judges consists of experts in photography, literature and canines -- all who are dog fanciers and who love dogs! The decision of the judges is final. Yes, there is a factor of subjectivity expressed by all judges in a competition of this nature, but it is up to YOU to tell us why your dog is the best dog in the world. Therefore everyone has an equal chance to win and no matter what the outcome of the competition YOU will still know for your own reasons that YOU have the best dog in the world. That fact does not change just because this contest will have an annual winner. In a sense EVERYONE will be a winner and the whole point of this contest is to get everyone to think about their dogs and why their dogs are the best dog in the world. Then think about homeless animals and why it is so vital to save the lives of these homeless animals because they could be the best dog in the world for someone. So whatever the outcome of this contest, the winners are EVERYONE who participates as well as their most loved canine companions.
- If you enter and/or participate in The Best Dog In The World Contest you agree to the rules, terms and conditions of this contest and forever release GSDAR, Project K9, their agents, representatives, sponsors, partners or print-on-demand service providers from any and all hurt, harm, damages, loss or liability whatsoever, real or imagines, associated with the Best Dog In The World Contest.
