Welcome!

US Art Union is a grassroots effort. Artists and creative people are exploited. Only by coming together and acting through a united body and effort can artists hope to end their exploitation.

US Art Union was founded to help begin a process whereby change may begin, such that the various ways in which artists, especially struggling artists, are exploited, may be stopped.

In many parts of the world artists are paid slave labor wages working for companies which produce and export goods and services, said companies becoming rich in the process at the expense of artists and craftsmen and women. Even in the United States artist and craftsmen and women are often exploited by large companies who pay meager salaries, retain all rights to original creative work, and systematically exploit artists.

Certainly artists and craftsmen and women do not make what doctors and lawyers make per hour. Why not? Part of the problem is that our modern culture does not place a high value upon art, not unless an artist is famous and/or long dead. The ability to mass produce goods has brought down the value of products, such that the unique works by artists are not appreciated or highly valued.

Basically artists and craftsmen and women have been reduced to second class citizens exploited by big business and, instead of acting together as a union to protect their rights and increase the value of their work and service, artists are made to compete one against the other, to their general detriment.

This is a very bad situation if you are an artist. It is why so many artists are starving, struggling to get by, to make ends meet.

The solution to this problem is for artist to organize, to form art guilds, unions, coops, and other organizations. US Art Union is one such grass roots effort.
