Biographical Sketch

Terry Lynch (nicknamed Tal), is a creative artist and writer. He publishes his work on-line and electronically and has written, designed and produced hundreds of web sites.

Lynch is a graduate of Jacksonville State University. He has been writing and drawing since a young child. His early writings consisted of letters to friends, relatives and personal diaries. Over the years Lynch has written thousands of love letters and poems, many of which have been published on-line or in the form of electronic diskette books. The Pyrotechnic Pen is Lynch's first HTML Diskette Book. Prior to this release Lynch produced and distributed his work as ASCII type text files on floppy diskettes and via electronic bulletin boards.

Lynch is an Army Brat. He was born in Bremerhaven, Germany and lived and traveled in many different parts of the USA and Europe. Lynch's father, Lt. Col Leonard P. Lynch was a career Army officer whose commands included protection of the Selma-to-Montgomery civil rights marchers.

Lynch has spent many year living in the deep south so he has an intimate knowledge of the culture and society. However, Lynch is anything but a "redneck" or Southerner. He is more of a universal American, a factor which his writings often express, given Lynch's cynical view of Bible Belt values and the deep held prejudice and hatred which many Southerners cling to, even at the dawn of the 21st Century.

Lynch is a strong advocate of the rights of children, the elderly, mentally challenged, animals and all who cannot speak for themselves. Many of Lynch's most insightful, provocative and challenging articles can be found in The Pyrotechnic Pen, now in blog format. Enjoy!

Besides being a writer, Lynch is an expert in the usage of computers. His formal college education included a concentration of course work in Physics and other sciences as well as the Fine and Studio Arts. Plus Lynch loves to travel and take photographs. Although Lynch is able to produce bread and butter type technical writing and graphics, his true love is the creative writing of letters, poems, short stories, essays and other fine art and literature.

Lynch enjoys self-publishing his work on the Internet and often ghost writes under an alias name or pseudonym. Lynch has used both male and female alias names as well as assumed the character of authors of different races and cultural heritage. Lynch enjoys assuming new character roles while on-line to make anonymous posts and research people's reactions to different ideas he may throw out into cyber space. Don't be surprised if you have already met Lynch on-line and didn't even know it!

Lynch has been writing editorial letters for many years. His first editorial letter was published in the Anniston Star while a college student and concerned an analysis of a sighting of Big Foot. Lynch explained how the sighting was probably a hoax given the reported facts did not agree with the physics of the observation. Every since this first letter was published, Lynch has enjoyed sending an occasional letter to the editor.

The Pyrotechnic Pen is the result of numerous editorial letters Lynch has written between 1998 and the present. This includes the period in which the impeachment and trial of President Clinton occurred, so it makes for some very interesting letters. It is also the period in which former governor of Alabama, George C. Wallace died. Lynch tried to use his editorial letters to encourage the late governor to sign a Proclamation Ending Segregation Forever. When George C. Wallace died not having made any such proclamation, Lynch published this notable document himself! Later Lynch visited the grave site of the late governor which was an inspiration for the George C. Wallace Atonement Memorial web site.

Lynch also used his editorial letters to encourage U.S. Senators to acquit President Clinton. Also Lynch has spoken out against display of the Confederate flag upon state capitols, advocating instead the support of America through the display of Old Glory. The inflammatory nature of Lynch's letters has generated tons of hate mail and even resulted in abusive threats, especially in regard to on-line posts of his letters.

Letters featured inThe Pyrotechnic Pen were often inspired by current events. These were learned about by reading newspapers or watching the news on television (CNN, Court TV or major network news). Generally each letter was drafted in long hand, writing upon a yellow legal pad attached to a clipboard or in a spiral bound notebook. Quite often letters were written after reading the morning newspaper. Sometimes a letter would be written outside, sitting under a tree or even in the mall while dining at a favorite restaurant. Lynch has always enjoyed writing in long hand, then using a word processor to later compose letters. Generally each letter was transcribed by Lynch who can touch type.

ADDENDUM: Currently Lynch uses a word processor in drafting letters to the editor, which are preformatted using a template the author designed. This simplifies the writing and email process and also enables adding text formatting codes, color, type style variations, etc. Lynch uses any of a number of word processors including AOL's text editor, MS Works word processor, Abiword and HOTDOGS HTML text editor when letters are imported to produce web pages.

The Pyrotechnic Pen was prepared using computers built by Lynch who has a number of systems. Lynch has a strong background in electronics and has been building his own electronic equipment since in high school. The final production copies of The Pyrotechnic Pen were prepared on an AMD Athlon 800 MHz system (or later upgrade) which has 256+ MB RAM and high quality graphics support for editing photographs and preparing web pages. HOTDOG is Lynch's favorite HTML editor. Lynch uses Photo Suite software to produce much of the graphics on web sites. Original photographs may be from 35mm film stock or digital images obtained using a digital camera, video camera with SNAPPY or by scanning prints on a flat bed scanner like the Hewlett Packard ScanJet 5200C. When high resolution photos are needed Lynch uses 35mm film and has the film processor prepare the resulting color transparencies as digital images. This latter fact relates more to Lynch's on-line landscape photography and digital morphic art designs than to the simple graphics used in The Pyrotechnic Pen. Also large format scans of original and unique graphic art and designs are often used to create art for presentation. Lynch has produced over 10,000 high quality graphic designs available upon a variety of merchandise, many of which are displayed in the Byteland Art Gallery and TopPics Awesome Designer Gifts.
