Welcome! A little muse from the editor

Welcome to The Quitman Villager, a multimedia extravaganza and emporium. The The Quitman Villager is created as a service to the community; it features happenings and going's on for everyone to enjoy. If you have something you want to contribute, an article, a story, or some words of wisdom, you are invited to send them to the editor.

The first goal of The Quitman Villager is to establish a presence on the Internet for the community of Quitman, Mississippi. All community members and businesses are invited to participate. Anyone who has some original writings, poetry, or other family oriented content is welcome to submit material.

When someone asked me why I was publishing The Quitman Villager, that there was nothing worth mentioning here and about I told them:

True, on the surface it may seem like there is not much happening in Quitman. But you always have to look a little deeper, to dig beneath the surface, to pan the sands of the creek, if you want to find little treasures of gold.

Unless you are from around these parts no one even knows Quitman exists. I certainly had never hear about Quitman before I stumbled upon the community while searching for a nice, peaceful place to live. In producing The Quitman Villager I'm just doing a little of God's work to put Quitman on the map so maybe it will help others.

God only knows a lot of people need the world to know we are here. After Katrina I was talking with an elderly woman who was in need and she remarked, as if speaking to the Lord, "Hey, hello, don't forget about us!"

Why if we had been much closer to the coast Quitman and a lot of other little towns that no one has ever heard of may have been blown away! But by the grace of God some of us are still around ... until our time comes to go and meet our maker.

I'm really just trying to sneak in a few good works so He won't slam the door to heaven in my face! :-)

That in a nutshell is what The Quitman Villager is, just a few good works so I might get into Heaven.

I figure if I slip up I can always point to The Quitman Villager and say to St. Peter standing at the pearly gates, "What about that bit I penned in Quitman?" Surely then he will have to open the gates for me!

So if you want to join with me and try to sneak in a few good works so you might get into Heaven, please let me know. But don't be so foolish to tell you pastor, ministor or the reverend at that church on the corner. They might kick you out of their chapel for putting your pen to paper and telling it how it is through your eyes and experiences. I say this knowing we are not all angels or saints, and the stories we may tell, be they in verse, poetry or even written as testimonials, would more than likely show we are all just sinners trying to sneak our way into Heaven.

But you see, although you might be able to pull one over on mortal man, you can't pull one over on God. That's why whatever I write or express it will be the God awful truth, even if it is embelished a little, as I do like a good story or yarn. So maybe if in doing that it does not get me into Heaven, perhaps St. Peter will at least let me put up a tent by Rainbow Bridge and camp out forever with the dogs! That's where I should be anyway, outside with the dogs, as if they let me into Heaven and don't allow my dogs (Ruby, Jade, and Angel) it is not a place I want to be for all eternity.

Respectfully,
Terry Lynch

Everything I do I do it for you

Playing in the background is the mellow love song "Everything I do I do it for you" by Brian Adams. This was selected as a theme song as it represents that quality of love and service which goes into The Quitman Villager. Although we each live our separate lives, if we embrace the idea that our work is a labor of love, a gift to others, and share our skills, ability and talents with those we love as well as with the community where we make our homes, then sucess will come from all we touch. That is the philosophy reflected in these pages by The Quitman Villager.
