Open letter to Newt Gingrich and the shock jocks: Newt Gingrich, Wake Up to Reality! Government Can and Does Provide Quality Health Care.
By Terry Lynch

Introduction: The following letter was inspired by articles written by Newt Gingrich which were published in The Clarke County Tribune and many other newspapers around the country which subscribe to this shock jock's conservative, lame brain, bamboozling, megalomania. This letter was sent to a number of newspapers so that they might have an alternative point-of-view and enlighten their readers to the fact that if they listen to Newt Gingrich or other shock jocks without questioning them, they may fall prey to these bullies, bashers, and bastards who beat up in the media on those who cannot help themselves, upon the misfortunate masses of humanity, the vast sea of uninsured Americans who are victims of a failed health care system in America, that provides care only to the employed wealthy or those most fortunated to be gainfully employed during these difficult and hard economc times.

Newt Gingrich, wake up to reality! The government is one of the largest providers of health care and has been for quite sometime. I know this for a fact having grown up as an Army brat, the son of a much decorated officer who served and sacrificed much for his country so that you, your family, your children, and others might be able to sit at their mahogany desks and spout ridicule at President Obama and the Democratic party, enjoying the benefits of freedom and liberty our service men and women have given you.

While growing up any health care I received was through health care benefits provided by the government. The same is true for my parents. If one is fortunate to have served their country they also qualify for benefits through the Veterans Administration and VA hospitals. Millions of Americas finest men, women and their children have received the highest quality of health care through benefits programs provided by the government to soldiers and their families. Hence I think it is safe to say that the government has a great deal of experience providing health care to Americans.

In fact, it may fairly be said that it was as a result of the care given by military doctors and nurses by both the Union and the Confederacy which was responsible for the birth of modern medicine and health care in America. Health care provided to soldiers in every war since the Civil War has served as a training ground for doctors and nurses and has resulted in great advances in medicine. I’m sure everyone remembers MASH; well the same type of on-the-spot field hospitals operate in Iraq and Afghanistan and are responsible for saving the lives of many seriously injured soldiers who would otherwise have died from injury and wounds caused by IEDs, RPGs, or multiple gun shout wounds. Hence I would say that the government has a long history with respect to providing quality health care. In fact, it is such military hospitals behind the front lines of battle that provides some of the best experience for doctors and nurses who later enter private practice when their duty to our country is done.

It is an insult to all patriotic Americans to say that our government cannot provide quality health care to its citizens. I am skeptical of those spouting such lies and wonder why they would make such atrocious claims? What do they have to gain? How do they benefit? Do they own stock in private health insurance companies? Are they so well to do and so uncaring of the uninsured, that they want to deny health care to those who need it most, as these millions of people somehow represent a threat to them in their nice mansions and estates? You know New Gingrich does not live in a tiny one-bedroom, wooden house in rural Mississippi.

It just does not make sense for anyone to spout filth about the quality of health care the government could provide, when it is the government that historically is responsible for the development of some of the best health care programs in America under some of the worst circumstances -- WAR!

It was during the Bush administration that my own dear mother’s health began to decline as a result of changes in the health care system provided to military families and their surviving spouses or widows. As a result she could not receive the same high quality of health care at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, as she had enjoyed for many years. Without the benefit of this health care and feeling deprived of services she felt entitled to, her health began to deteriorate. One day she became very ill and had to be hospitalized. Later she was diagnosed with dementia. Then she became the victim of greedy, private health care providers who literally financially raped and robbed her so that they could benefit from the income and health care benefits provided by the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration and Medicare. The greed of those in the private sector did this to my dear elderly, helpless mother, not because the government did not provide good benefits, but because the government provided great benefits from which all who wanted to dip their hands into the cookie jar might profit!

Having seen how the private sector financially raped and robbed my dear mother so they might profit form her income and benefits, you can not convince me that the government does not know how to provide good health care. This said, I am extremely suspicious of those who argue in favor of private, for profit insurance companies, as their motive is money, money and more money. These companies make their profit based upon the probability that most people who pay into the system will never enjoy the rewards of their investment because they will die in sudden accidents, by stroke, heart attacks, etc. Yet like idiots who cannot see the light when it is shining right in their eyes, people continue to listen to the foolishness and lies spouted by the likes of Newt Gingrich, who is, as his name implies, already RICH, has health care, and profits greatly from his enterprises, slamming, bamboozling, bulling, and defaming the Obama administration while reaping vast coffers of shock jock gold.

The great irony and hypocrisy here is that Newt Gingrich grew up in a career military family and himself benefited from the great government health care provided to military families! Shame on you Newt Gingrich for denying that sacrifice your own parents made to provide you with some of the best health care money can buy! Why now are you being such a bully and bastard by seeking to deny that same benefit to so many others in need! The Center for Health Transformation which you founded is nothing more than a pulpit to preach for and endorse the private health insurance industry which profits off of the fear, suffering, illness, and misfortunes of millions of Americans and puts gold into your own megalomania coffers!

If you believe that you are better off with no health insurance or that the government cannot provide good health care, then you should not support sending our young men and women into harms way, because it will be the government paying for their health care. Yet we all know this is not true. In fact, more people could have better health care and a higher quality of life if a government program were instituted to provide quality health care for all Americans from birth to death. The real reason some people do not want this is because they are profiting off of everyone else’s suffering, be it the newspapers, books or programming they market reprinting and propagating their lies, or the premiums they pocket peddling policies most people will never use because they will die first!

Write your congress men and women and tell them to support health care for everyone from birth to death! Let everyone pay into the system in proportion to their income, then we will have the greatest health care system in the world! Newt Gingrich’s ivory tower fortune and that of other shock jocks will then help those who he is now hurting by spouting lies, lies and more lies!
