The idea for Friends of Eddie came about after meeting Eddie, the Mayor of Quitman, Mississippi, and discovering all the good and worthy projects and efforts the Mayor was doing for the community. Given these good works benefit the entire community, it was deemed appropriate to raise awareness and help promote the Mayor of Quitman and all the good works being done for the community.
Too often cities get bogged down in politics. People end up fighting, bickering and arguing among themselves which may be an impediment to getting good work done. Such political infighting can hurt the image of communities and the administrations running the community. It was therefore decided that Friends of Eddie would be founded as a way to raise awareness and unite the community behind the Mayor and his good works. In this way it is hoped that politics, political infighting or just differences of opinion will not become a focal point; rather, everyone has a way to say "I Love Eddie," regardless of their political affiliations and regardless of whether or not they voted for the Mayor. This is a way everyone can spread pride, joy and love around and reflect a good image for the community, united in spirit for the good of all, rather than divided.
This is such a good idea it may be expanded to other cities in the future. The idea is to create I (Heart) gifts and apparel for the Mayors of all major cities and to use the proceeds right here in Quitman to do good work. Now wouldn't that be something, if from this small beginning right here in Quitman, Mississippi, I (Heart) Designs could take off and give people everywhere a way to support their Mayors and communities!
