Letter To The Editor -- For Immediate Release

Dear Editor:

Subject: I Challenge You To A Dual Of Words, Mr. Bolen

I hereby refute the allegation made by Wade C. Bolen, publisher of The Clarke County Tribune in his editorial of Oct. 20, 2009, that I am a liar and a racist! This is a libelous, absurd and totally irresponsible statement which hurts and harms me. My statements made about President Obama and our nation's enemies are true, accurate and correct and for The Clarke County Tribune’s publisher to somehow take my statements as a personal attack and then ridicule me in the newspaper before the public is hateful and harmful.

By his own admission the editorial page prints truth based upon fact; therefore according to what Mr. Bolen is saying my letter “Bashing President Obama is racist and anti-American," must be true. Therefore it is fallacious for Mr. Bolen to then turn around and take personal offense with my opinion and call me a “racist” and accuse me of spreading “liberal lies.”

Why would Mr. Bolen try to make a political debate on issues and national policy into a personal attack? My letters to the editor are about national policy and editorial policy. If it is my opinion that The Clarke County Tribune is publishing right wing, fundamentalist propaganda, which is racist and anti-American and which gives strength to our enemies, that is my opinion and it is my constitutional right to be able to express my opinion, just as it is the right of Mr. Bolen and everyone else to have their opinion.

Let’s face it, the editorial page is where everyone is invited to express their opinion. It is not the Gospel nor is one person’s opinion necessarily any more truthful than another person’s opinion. Letters to the editor are OPINIONS, not legal or scientific facts, nor sworn oath testaments in court. Opinions are often worth a dime a dozen, and I certainly rate Mr. Bolen’s opinion about my support of President Obama to be worth less than that!

It is sad that the Mr. Bolen, as publisher of The Clarke County Tribune, takes personally what is only a political debate and justifiable criticism. Not everyone in Clarke County is an ultra right wing, racist, Obama bashing, bamboozling, Newt Gingrich worshipping, conservative Republican. Some of us respect and admire President Obama for having the courage to seek change and have hope for a better future for all Americans. And many of us would like to see health care reform a reality whatever it may cost, because to do nothing is costing us our health and our lives!

There are some 40-million American who do not have adequate health care. This cost everyone as does all the waste and fraud that is in the health care system. It cost many people and families their homes and many more the lives of those they dearly love. So to be in favor of President Obama and health care reform is, as I see it, the only responsible and humane action a person can take -- unless, of course, you are a right wing, conservative following like a child Newt Gingrich’s Pied Piper tune to your grave.

As for everyone who opposes President Obama being a racist and anti-American, it really does seem that way to me, given now the fact that a Nobel Prize was awarded to President Obama. The whole world is now watching what we do. To not provide health care reform, to allow our enemies to win the war on terrorism, to let them divide and conquer us by spouting propaganda that hurts and harms the present administration during a time of war, is down right anti-American! And yes, if someone does not like the first black president of the United States, I think they might just be a racist even if they had a black nanny or picked cotton. That’s not exactly marching for civil rights!

That’s just the way I see it. If Mr. Bolen can’t see the light, I feel sorry for him. But I speak the truth. It is a fact that if you are not for America then you are against America. If you want 40-million Americans to be without health care, then I see that as being against America. And if you are so irresponsible to reprint, distribute and toot Newt’s right wing political propaganda and tell everyone it is the God awful truth, when anyone with a lick of sense knows it is just more bamboozling, then in my book you are anti-American ... especially if doing so aides and abets our enemies!

Therefore it is quite libelous that Mr. Bolen should call me a racist for supporting my President! It is further libelous for Mr. Bolen and The Clarke County Tribune to say I am spreading “liberal lies.” How is that “loving thy neighbor as thy loves thyself.” To make such fallacious statements in the same breath is in and of itself proof of bearing false witness! For one who loves thy neighbor does not take personal offense to opinions about policy and politics expressed on the editorial page.

So unless The Clarke County Tribune issues a retraction forthwith, I will consider that what has been printed and said by Mr. Bolen is just more Newt tooting libelous garbage proven as such by Mr. Bolen’s own remarks. Certainly I will accept and forgive those who admit their wrong doing or speak without thinking. But I will not have much respect for any man who calls me a “racist” or says that “you are like a cancer,” because I support my President! I wouldn’t even say that of Newt Gingrich even after all the garbage coming out of his think tank mouth, because I realize he is really just laying the groundwork for a presidential run -- and all is fair in love and war, and POLITICS!

If I remember correctly, the majority of Americans voted for President Obama. I believe he is trying to do good for all Americans and I suspect those who do not support Obama may have ulterior motives. One of these ulterior motives is to support Newt Gingrich who may run for president in the future. Hence to use small, conservative newspapers to bash the President and build an electorate that can easily be influenced or manipulated to get their votes, is motive for calling anyone who sees clearly through this dirty laundry conspiracy a “racist,” or God forbid, a “liberal” guilty of spreading “liberal lies.” That may be your opinion, Mr. Bolen, but it is NOT the truth and it is not fact! It is simply what I perceive as more lies piled upon more lies to boost the popularity of a newspaper which is reprinting ultra right wing, racist, Obama bashing, bamboozling, Newt Gingrich worshipping, conservative Republicanism. Now if you want to print the truth, print that!

Further, if you are a gentleman and a good sport to boot, willing to take on more than a helpless deer that can’t shoot back, then maybe you will prove it. I challenge you to a dual of words, to a debate right here in the pages of your own newspaper. Just give me a column at whatever is the going rate, to print my opinion, all those “liberal lies” you are talking about and seem to be so afraid of that it makes you rant. I’m throwing down the gauntlet. Do you have the balls to pick it up? Who knows, it might even help sell a few of these rages you are publishing and calling a newspaper. Or are you just the Pied Piper of Hamelin, tooting for Newt, marching all the children to doom?
