I believe that no matter how short or long we are blessed to grace this good Earth, we are always all God’s children. One of my favorite activities as a photographer is to go among my neighbors and record their joy, happiness and celebration of life. This photo collage entitled All God’s Children at the Wildlife Festival combines a number of photographs of people in their celebration of nature, love and life. This particular work is composed of photographs I have taken at the Forestry and Wildlife Festival at Lake Archusa Water Park in years past. This set of images reflects good neighbors coming together as a community thankful for life and all God’s blessings. You can see the joy, warm hearted goodness and loving nature in each and every person, both young and old, as they sing, dance, and enjoy good times together. This would make a great collage to grace your home or office that it may remind you and your loved ones that we are All God’s Children and each have something wonderful and beautiful of ourselves to contribute to help make the world a better place.

I have been carrying around a camera and taking photographs since I was seven years old. My dear Father, Lt. Col. Leonard P. Lynch, gave me an old box camera which I learned on, later progressing to a 35mm. In college I took photography, graphic design, and art courses, receiving a degree in Fine Art. I enjoy taking human interest photographs; people are without a doubt one of my favorite subjects. This photograph entitled God’s Challenge was taken at the 2008 Wildlife Festival at Archusa Creek Water Park. You can sense the awe in spectators gathered to watch young climbers as they meet God’s challenge of ascenting the rock wall. I chose God’s Challenge as a title because each day in life we are often presented with challenges, which when met head-on and with faith, can build that strength and good character which enables us to climb high and reach our goals. I often give inspirational titals to my photographs because I believe one of my blessings as a creative person is to be able to see God and how he works in all things. Thus although this photograph may be viewed as just children climbing a rock wall, the moment really captures one of God’s Challenges which was met with courage and determination by these young people.

As a naturalist/photographer I enjoy photographing flora and fauna. During the hot, steamy month of August cicadas emerge from the ground late at night as nymphs and metamorphose into large, beautiful mature adults which fill the air with loud songs. Usually one only sees the nymph’s exoskeletons left hanging from trees or other vegetation, as it is very difficult to locate cicadas while they are moulting and turning into adult insects. One evening in August I took my dog, Angel, out for a walk and discovered a newly emerged cicada nymph just starting to moult. I took a series of digital photographs, capturing the entire process of metamorphosis. Later I used these rare photographs to produce digital art prints, manipulating the colors to make beautiful compositions that evoke the spirit of God’s creation and the midnight romance that is the Metamorphosis of Cicada. One of my favorite forms of art is the photo collage as it gives me the opportunity to combine photography with creative expression. This particular work is composed of photographs I have taken at the Forestry and Wildlife Festival in years past. Because the theme of the festival and this exhibit is wildlife and nature, I dropped in a swarm of cicadas which adds an element of wild and bizarre fantasy to the design. Insects and their behavior have always fascinated me. As a naturalist I have studied and photographed insects, so adding them to drawings, paintings or photographs is not done to shock or awe anyone, but merely as a way to create a unique design. Should the resulting collage spark criticism, questions, or even arouse emotions in the observer, likely they are a reflection of one’s self, not of the artist, as I see God and goodness in all of life, and cicadas are one of His miracles, just as is humanity. Hence why not celebrate the universal nature of God in all of life and love by creating a blend, a collage, as in this masterful reflection entitled All God’s Creatures. Millions of Americans, myself included, enjoy fishing. As a photographer I consider myself a Fisher of Men. This beautiful photograph was taken at Lake Archusa in Quitman, Mississippi. It shows a lone fisherman doing what many of us so enjoy, casting forth a line to see what we may catch. Every day when we go out into the world we are casting lines with every action and every word spoken. What we say and do may effect and influence others. I like to think that the photographs I take are like casting forth a line, and in their exhibit and presentation they may effect and influence others to somehow make the world a better place. Each click of the camera’s shutter is the casting forth of a line, and hopefully I am able to catch a beautiful or compelling image of this Heaven upon Earth in which we dwell. Indeed, when you think of it, a beautiful picture is much like a prayer, for it can reach out and touch another’s heart and soul, and bring one to see not only the pure beauty of nature, but into the eye of God. Might a picture that is thus worth a thousand words, of a Fisher of Men, then bring another lost soul to God? I wonder.
