The following letter was submitted to The Clarke County Tribune for publication with regard to its new 300 word limit policy. The letter is published here so that everyone may enjoy and relish in that gift of gab which many of my readers find amusing. Dear Editor:
Thank you for your consideration. I was not aware of the fact that you had actually instituted the new 300 word limit policy for letters to the editor which favors political morons. One of the nice aspects of a small town newspaper like The Clarke County Tribune is that you did not limit those with the gift of gab to only 300 words. Therefore, rather than censor myself, I posted my letter have "Real men have strength of character regardless of their hair length" on-line at www.byteland.org/quitman/real_men.html.
I have very much enjoyed reading full and complete long letters from readers in the past and feel that this new policy will be an impediment to many who have taken the time and consideration to address issues which genuinely concern them as members of the community. Quite frankly I'd rather read long letters from members of the community and Clarke County, rather than much of the political propaganda you have been publishing by ultra right wing moronic conservative politicians bashing President Obama and the current administration.
I respect the fact that as the editor you will set your own policies. But I don't agree with the doomed to failure, locked in the past, dead before arrival policies of the Republican administration that you have endorsed and are promoting. We have a mayor, Eddie Fulton, who is an INDEPENDENT working to improve the community, to get the community involved in planing for and developing a bright future. I recommend that The Clarke County Tribute adopt an independent policy with regard to politics so that it is in harmony with the present local administration.
I also respect the fact that every editor has their own political ideas and opinions and, like me, shares that gift for gab. Yet again I do not agree with some of the editor's opinions. I certainly do not agree with the new 300 word limit for letters to the editor -- unless maybe the editor also applies that policy to his own MUCH TOO LONG ramblings and those of others he publishes. This is especially true for all utterances of right wing, ultra conservative, bamboozling politicians like Newt Gingrich!
Let's see, have I gone over my 300 word limit yet? I think not. So that gives me time to say that I think if more people would actually write letters to the editor and express their opinions, maybe I'd change my mind and be happy with a 300 word limit, especially if it meant not having to read the political propaganda of white, racist, greed motivated, power hungry, exploitive conservatives whose only aim in life seems to be how much they can gain for themselves, and could care less what happens to the rest of humanity or the planet!
Sincerely,
Terry Lynch
