SUBJECT: Senate Should Serve Scarlet Letter Upon Clinton!
Open Letter To US Senators

Sen. Richard Shelby has been less than forth coming with respect to his position regarding the impeachment trial of President Clinton. Sen. Shelby has taken a wait and see attitude which some consider less than honest, if not deceitful. In fact some people might view this behavior as that of a coward and turn coat!
I quarried Sen. Shelby both before President Clinton was impeached and afterward. On both occasions Sen. Shelby replied to me with a respectful letter detailing the impeachment process. However such a letter sidestepped the issue and was rather insulting, given it is impossible to imagine how anyone attuned to current events could possibly need an education on the impeachment process!
Sen. Shelby's letters failed to take a stand either way on the impeachment issue. Then when it came to a vote to dismiss and call witnesses, Sen. Shelby voted with the republican majority.
From the left there comes the cry, "There is only one thing worse than a right wing republican; that's a republican who was formerly a democrat! Shelby has betrayed the democratic party by changing parties and voting with republicans. If Sen. Shelby votes to convict President Clinton and remove him from office, Sen. Shelby will brand himself a traitor not only to the democratic party, but to the people of America who largely support President Clinton and want him to complete his term as President."
Obviously such left wing rhetoric will not yield a fruitful solution to our nation's present moral dilemma. I would therefor like to dispense with rhetoric and recommend a way Sen. Shelby and other Senators may lead America out of this dilemma.
First, given strong hope and faith in God and country, I urge Sen. Shelby and all senators to set aside party politics and support the majority of Americans by voting against both Articles of Impeachment. Then I urge members of both parties to join together to draft a letter to President Clinton which rebukes his unacceptable behavior. This letter may be signed by all whom support it, whether they be democrat or republican, thereby serving to give notice to President Clinton and all future presidents that behavior unbecoming of a president will result in a scarlet letter of scorn.
Should Sen. Shelby take a leadership role in this effort, he will help to bring our nation out of this moral dilemma and put it back on track. Plus, such a scarlet letter will provide a historical document and set a moral precedent for our nation to follow in event of future White House sex scandals.
Sincerely, Terry Lynch
