SUBJECT: Wallace Can Walk Again Ref. "Wallace Votes for Clinton Resignation" Montgomery Advertiser p. 1A Aug. 26, 1998 It may require a miracle but former Gov. George C. Wallace can walk again. However, he must first come to understand the true meaning of the word "horrible" in its various connotations. "Horrible," meaning extremely unpleasant, may properly describe the assassination attempt upon Wallace, his suffering and how he feels. But "horrible" is an inappropriate adjective for Wallace to use with respect to President Clinton and the White House sex scandal. It is also inappropriate for the Advertiser to use the former Governor's birthday celebration for political purposes by prompting Wallace, who has been through a "horrible", meaning shockingly dreadful experience, to associate his feelings with the White House sex scandal. The former Gov. Wallace seems to have been led to transpose his own suffering and feelings to his perception of President Clinton and the White House scandal. Perhaps this was done for the political benefit such reporting by his former press secretary, could have for Wallace's son. If that is the case it represents a "horrible," meaning abominable, way to use and manipulate the power of the press. How a suffering Wallace feels about President Clinton's predicament is not headline news. What would be headline news is if the former Gov. Wallace would sign a proclamation declaring that he recants his "segregation forever" philosophy with respect to all social segregation of church and state institutions. It would be "horrible," meaning deplorable, if Wallace dies without recanting by written proclamation his "segregation forever" belief. If Wallace has enough presence of mind to ask for a Bible he should reconsider the teachings of Jesus Christ with respect to children, love and self sacrifice. No man who understands the Sermon on the Mount, the crucifixion of Christ and the persecution of Christians by Romans can justify social segregation, because it is a "horrible," meaning disgusting, way for people to treat their fellow man. I would like to urge the former Gov. Wallace to consider how he feels and transpose those horrid feelings to how social segregation makes people feel who are segregated. Then consider recanting segregation forever as a "horrible" social institution! Gov. Wallace may wish he was never shot and that he could walk again. I suggest that it would be a similar miracle if he would issue a proclamation to end social segregation of church and state forever. Yet that is one miracle Wallace has the power to make happen. If he does, he will walk again beside the great men of history! Sincerely, Terry Lynch Montgomery, AL Copyright Notice
