Letter to the Editor - For Immediate Release
SUBJECT: Hyde Has Lied, Lied, Lied!
Henry Hyde has lied, lied, and lied to the American people! Hyde's biggest lie was when he said that President Clinton committed high crimes and misdemeanors.
On Jan. 7th, 1999 Henry Hyde went before the U.S. Senate and delivered Articles of Impeachment. In his presentation to the Senate Hyde said that the President's conduct constituted high crimes and misdemeanors. Yet this allegation was never determined by the U.S. House of Representatives which did not define or clarify what was high crimes and misdemeanors. Therefore for Hyde to unequivocally state this as fact rather than allegation is a balled faced lie designed to defame and discredit the President of the United States.
I have said before and I will say again that the Starr Report is not fact, but allegation. Every word of the Starr Report is open to question. The truth of the Starr Report is NOT absolute, but a mix of black and white. It is grey matter, some of which may bare itself out upon cross examination, some which may crumble under close scrutiny.
For Henry Hyde to go before the U.S. Senate and say that President Clinton's conduct was high crimes and misdemeanors, rather than allege such action to be high crimes and misdemeanors, demonstrates a resolve by republicans to continue the partisan politics which dominated the impeachment precedings in the U.S. House of Representatives. What we have is not the truth but a one-sides view of the truth.
Liers come in many forms. Henry Hyde is the worst form of lier because he tells his lies standing behind the right wing Christian coalition and US House majority of over zealous conservative republicans. Hyde's great big lie threatens to destroy the U.S. Constitution by degrading the standard of impeachment to include types of personal conduct that are NOT matters of state.
There is no place in government for the type of party partisan lier represented by Henry Hyde. President Clinton has NOT committed any high crimes or misdemeanors but has only had an extra marital relationship. Henry Hyde, himself, is guilty of participating in extra marital affairs making it extremely hypocritical of him to call for the impeachment of the President of the United States! But to push such a whopping lie upon the American people is an act which should result in Henry Hyde's removal from office, if not by resignation, then by public mandate!
Sincerely, Terry Lynch
