SUBJECT: All People of God Are Great!
It is an exercise in futility, if not idolatry, to select from
among all peoples some few to consider as the most significant
personalities in the 21st Century. Instead we should treasure
all of humanity, not just some few regarded as special, great or
saintly.
Whether you limit your selection to 1,000 people, three people or
one person, the process is a degradation of humanity, a horrid
diminution of that totality of being which is most sacred and
of God.
Each living soul plays a vital roll in our walk through time.
Who is to say that in the eyes of God each one of us is not a
great being? Who is to say that a nameless person devoting
his or her life to feeding and caring for the sick and
impoverished is not every bit as noble as an emperor or king?
Who is to say that the common man or woman working to provide
love and care to their children is not as significant as a
president, general or pontiff?
Yes, there are personalities whom we hail as great, but they are
only great because each one stands on the shoulders of others,
indeed, some would say they stand upon the shoulders of God! This
is true whether the name praised is Albert Einstein, Sir Winston
Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or
some rock star parading around as Jesus Christ Superstar!
Rather than limit our sight to the acclaim of a few individuals,
it would be wise to extend our vision and praise all of humanity.
There are literally millions of people from every faith and walk
of life whom have made great contributions to our modern culture.
As the third millennium approaches let us not endeavor to focus
upon a few great souls; rather let us embrace all souls as great!
Though the task to embrace all great souls and learn from the
work of all great people may be enormous, it offers each of us
the opportunity to celebrate our fellow man in toto. That
greatness which we come to know in full and treasure is then
renewed within us. This rebirth gives new life to all of God and
humanity and so carries on the process of bringing forth heaven
upon earth!
Sincerely, Terry Lynch
