Letter to the Editor - For Immediate Release

SUBJECT: Republicans Just Want To Defame President Republicans did not vote their conscience when they voted to have hearings on the impeachment of President Clinton. What they voted for was to embarrass and defame the President and attempt to gain as much power for their own party as possible. There is no way every single Republican could possibly believe impeachment is the right course for our country. Republicans know that even if they voted to have an impeachment, there are not enough votes in the Senate to obtain a two-thirds majority. Hence Republicans are just trying to embarrass the president and win as many seats as they can come November and election day. The majority of Americans do not want to impeach President Clinton and have already forgiven him for his conduct with respect to Monica Lewinsky. I would not be at all surprised if there is a backlash on election day and republicans lose more seats then they gain. In fact the American people are fed up with the dirty politics being played by republicans. This includes such things as the invasion of President Clinton's private life, the wiring of Linda Tripp and taping of private conversations with Monica Lewinsky and the entrapment of President Clinton to make it appear as if he lied when under oath. It also includes reports that Starr investigators tried tosexually harass Monica Lewinsky which amounts to witness tampering or scaring her into making an agreement to tell prosecutors whatever they wanted to hear. I simply do not believe republicans are sincere. They don't want what is best for America, only what is best for themselves! That is, they want all the power, control and money for their own coffers and will do anything, including trying to embarrass the president, to effect their selfish goals. Shame on Ken Starr! Shame on Newt Gingrich! Shame on Henry Hyde! And shame on every holier than thou republican who voted to have impeachment hearings over a silly little sex scandal! I urge everyone who agrees with this position to write their representatives and urge that the impeachment process be halted! It may be the constitutional right of Congress to have hearing on impeachment of the President, but Congress does not have the right to go against the will of the majority of Americans they represent just because the President wanted to have a little whoopie!
