Letter to the Editor - For Immediate Release
SUBJECT: Primary Rights Violated By Congress Publication by Congress of private letters, e-mail, taped recordings and other personal documents which were obtained by Independent Council Kenneth Starr through search and seizure and other questionable means (such as using Linda Tripp to record private conversations with Monica Lewinsky), represents a great violation of the privacy rights of private citizens. When our nation was first established one of the primary motivating factors all school children are taught which led to the American Revolution was the fact British troops could search and seize and even occupy private homes and property. Apparently Kenneth Starr and republicans in the House of Representatives would like to return to those times. As part of the resolution to conduct hearings to impeach the President, Congress also enacted the right to obtain all manner of private documents, tapes, videos or other material which it may publish without the consent of the author or copyright owner. This means Congress can invade any home or office to secure material, even the offices of newspapers or television stations. Nothing is more dangerous to our republic than the corruption of individual privacy rights. The invasion by Kenneth Starr and Congress into the private lives of citizens for the purpose of defaming the President of the United States represents one of the greatest constitutional crisis since the Bill of Rights was adopted. Americans everywhere should rise up in anger and protest this invasion of privacy by writing their representatives and organizing protests and demonstrations to call for Kenneth Starr's dismissal as Special Prosecutor. He has violated Monica Lewinsky's rights as well as the rights of every private citizen who has ever written a letter, sent an e-mail or had what they thought was a private conversation with a friend or associate. Starr should be imprisoned for his actions! Plus actions by Congress to secure and publish private documents without the consent of their authors should be declared unconstitutional! Every American who cherishes their privacy should go to the polls and vote against every republican member of Congress who voted to release the Starr Report and sanction impeachment of President Clinton. Unless Americans everywhere who value their right to privacy rise up and remove the republican moralist monsters from office, our nation will become a theocracy in practice and no man nor woman will be free to exercise their god given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! We will not be able to think thoughts, to talk upon the telephone, to write a letter or memo, to keep a diary, to send an e-mail, to even talk in privacy to trusted and dear friends; to even talk to our parents or children without fear big brother may be listening, may be watching. This is because the precedent set by Congress today to investigate the president's personal sex life at the expense of privacy rights, tomorrow could be applied to all private citizens. We will not be able to develop and explore new relationships; to kiss, hug or make love; we will not be able to touch each other closest with deepest passion without the fear that the government may turn our love into something dirty and scandalous! For if Ken Starr and Congress can do that to the President of the United States, they can do it to any private citizen. When in the course of human events a government becomes corrupted, it is the duty and responsibility of all freedom and life loving people to change that government. Therefore I urge all Americans to consider their privacy and the terrible precedent Congress has set in violation of privacy rights. Then go to the polls and purge our nation of those theocratic maniacs and moralistic monsters who would turn our nation into a land where no man nor woman, where not even the President of the United States, may enjoy a private moment. I urge everyone who agrees with this position to write their representatives and urge that the impeachment process be halted! It may be the constitutional right of Congress to impeach the President, but Congress does not have the right to violate the privacy of all Americans in the process!
