Ask Questions Please!, Mar 8, 2002, 12:04, Mrs. Robert L. Stokes

Ask Questions: Ask Question! Become educated! A GOOD breeder appreciates an educated buyer. It proves that you have become directly involved with the purchase of a companion that will live with you for the next ten to twelve years. When buying a pet your first concern should be health. Then in this order: Temperament of the puppy. What testing has been done? Then, sex of the pup, whether you want a male or female? Conformation, the body structure, have they been evaluated? Color of the dog. Selection and determination done? When you are buying to breed the order is somewhat different but the requirements are the same. You will want to know what steps have been taken to ensure that these requirements have been met. What has been done to produce the best possible outcome of a healthy litter? Is The facility clean? Are the dogs handled lovingly? Was the female current on her vaccines and tested for known genetic disorder within the breed? On both the sire and the dam, eyes should be screened, blood tested and general health good assured before producing a litter. This involves veterinary testing and observation of the breed stock. Careful selection of desired traits and a consideration to always improve on quality. These qualities are best observed and produced by a conscientious breeder. One that is willing to spend the money and time necessary to produce quality. Regarding temperament. I am of the school of thought that a large part of temperament is inherited. Fallowing that idea, dogs that are chosen for breeding are the most quick to please. They are alert and intelligent even a little mischievous. Schnauzers should be feisty with out being overly aggressive. On that same thought, it seems females that are timid seem to pass that down to there offspring. Temperament is one of the most important traits in any dog!. We strive to achieve the best tempered dogs possible. We strive to produce puppies that are loving, intelligent companions and are a joy to look at. Stone Kennel Lynn Stokes
