John Boy
By Terry Lynch He bought a Long Easy and went for a flight Over Monterey Bay with the gulls and the hawks How could he know there would be no tomorrow No other way, no other way, he would have wanted it, no other way. He loved his woman, he loved his children He loved his guitar, he loved his music He made us all laugh, he made us all cry He made us try harder, he made us all better. (Chorus) Oh John boy oh John boy sing me a song Oh John boy oh John boy take me along Oh John boy oh John boy make me strong Oh John boy oh John boy carry me on. He warmed our hearts, he opened our minds To the forest they're logging, burning down to the ground To the ocean they're polluting, the dolphin killing To the wildlife disappearing, God's children starving. He sang us lullabies, he sang us love songs Of the Rockies he loved and took to his heart Of the woman he married and children he fathered Of the sunshine he felt enlighten his soul Oh John boy oh John boy sing me a song Oh John boy oh John boy take me along Oh John boy oh John boy make me strong Oh John boy oh John boy carry me on. ...Your music my tears ...Your dreams my ideals. Remarks: Written after watching segments of John Denver's memorial services which were NOT carried in their entirety on network or cable stations in Montgomery, Alabama where John Denver once lived as a child. This song was particularly tearful to compose and I wrote it while sitting under a pine tree with my dog, Jade. Somehow I felt John Denver singing through me and could only wonder if such a thing is possible and why should I be so moved by his loss? Why should it seem as if he is inside me, unless it is true that his spirit does live within everyone who loved him and his music.
