My Epitaph
By Terry Lynch For Annie, JD's children and John Denver's fans. (chorus -- repeat at end) When my life is done and I am gone It will be as it's just begun In the hearts and minds of those who love A love song that has been well sung I'm a dreamer of what might be And I believe in building of dreams We all can be what we dream to be If first we dream, the build our dreams. Life is for living not preying to live forever We are blessed with only so much time Soon it will be gone in what seems a flash Then all that will be left is ashes and dust. But that ashes can be diamonds, that dust gold If each day we chase a rainbow If each evening we watch a sunset If each night we count the stars love making. I'm not an angel, and surely not a saint God is a wonderment, the ferment of the universe Life is what I live from day to day The dreams I dream, the songs I weave. When I am gone let this be my epitaph That he chased the light of heart, mind and soul And lives in the sunshine of every heart That knows the love of man and woman. When my life is done and I am gone It will be as it's just begun In the hearts and minds of those who love A love song that has been well sung Terry Lynch 16 Oct. 1997 Remarks: This song was written after listening to JD's songs and seeing an interview with Annie, JD's wife, where she said her favorite JD song was Perhaps Love
