After Life

By Terry Lynch (Chorus) After life what is there but love After life all the people that we loved After life all the trees that we planted After life all the children that we fed 'n' hugged. All the people in their churches, hoping, praying for eternity For salvation, life ever after, well I just don't know. All the cities popping up sky scrapers to the heavens For progress to satisfy the hungry masses, well I just don't know. Could be a paradise right here on Earth Could be no hunger, could be no crime, Could be a heave right here on Earth Could be no poverty, could be no war. Now I know you may not agree But what would the world be like without a tree Without the mountains, without clean water Without air to breath, without love to keep. Together hand in hand we can all make a difference Here and now when and where it counts Here and now right here on Earth Here and now brother and sister all people one people! After life what is there but love After life all the people that we loved After life all the trees that we planted After life all the children that we fed 'n' hugged.

Remarks:

Composed Oct. 17, 1997 on the evening of John Denver's memorial services. This song was inspired by John Denver's music and humanitarian work. Earlier in the day I had watched segments of JD's memorial services and was disappointed that the local television media did not broadcast the complete ceromony. I also logged onto Windstar and read about the foundation John Denver had established to inspire personal involvement in environmental preservation and world peace. I took my dog, Jade for a walk. While looking up at the stars and thinking about John Denver, how his work and songs have made the world a better life and will live long after him, this song came to mind.
