The One Dream Song
By Terry Lynch (Chorus -- repeat at end) My one dream of the whole world green My one dream of the whole world free My one dream of t he whole world singing My one dream of the whole world loving From the great wall of China to the Taj Mahal From the pyramids of Egypt to the Golden Gate From the Falls of Niagra to Victoria One world, one dream, one song, one peace Is it too much to hope and dream? Is it too much to pray and play? Is it too much to wish upon a star? Is it too much to love, and love, and love? Now I know not everyone worships in the same temple The great Buddha in Japan reigns supreme And Mecca is Mohammed's tomb In Jerusalem they have a Wailing Wall And in DC upon the Mall A wall of tears from another war While in the Vatican the Pope holds mass The Virgin Marry, Jesus on a cross But in our hearts we feel the pain Of all the hunger of a third world crying And it is the same for both me and you Whe a forest dies for a suburb birth Now I am not saying it's right or wrong Which god you worship, which star you follow I am just singing my one dream song We each can make a difference, by singing along (Chorus followed by 2nd verse) My one dream of the whole world green My one dream of the whole world free My one dream of t he whole world singing My one dream of the whole world loving From the great wall of China to the Taj Mahal From the pyramids of Egypt to the Golden Gate From the Falls of Niagra to Victoria One world, one dream, one song, one peace (end with) ...The whole world singing the same love song ...Yeah the whole world singing The One Dream Song. Terry Lynch 30 Oct. 1997
Remarks: This song was written on a bright sunny day while sitting under a tree and thinking about John Denver. The night before I had read about how people were planing a Day of Remembrance for Novenber 12, 1997, one month after John Denver's death. It seemed as if John Denver was telling me that the way he wanted people to remember him was by singing his songs, by following in his footsteps as song writers and humanitarians, and by working to make the world a better place. This song is given to the world hoping it will add to the melody of a one world, at peace and in harmony with nature and humanity.
The melody is very much suggested by the tone of the words and I could hear John Denver's voice inside my mind singing the song as I wrote it. The first stanza come to mind before I went to sleep. Then when I woke, I went outside, sat in the sun, and wrote the song...all the while hearing John's voice inside my mind singing. I don't know if it is possible for the dead to communicate with the living. But if such a thing is possible, surely this song was inspired by a vision of John's singing inside my head!
