Adoptions & Success Stories

Hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized each year because homes can not be found for them. This represents a staggering problem. Why are we allowing this type of slaughter to go on in America? Such mass killing of animals is abhorrent! A large part of the problem is greed and apathy. What money that does exist for animal control goes to paying salaries rather than providing services to find new homes for animals. There is too much public apathy; people just do not care and the media does not focus enough attention on the problem that people will rise up and demand that the mass killing of animals be stopped. It is simply a waste of life!

In order to help, everyone is asked to support their local animal rescue groups, organizations and shelters. If you can not give money, please give much needed supplies or equipment. You can make a difference and help reduce the number of good animals that are euthanized each year.

In effort to help, this site features stories about dogs in need of rescue or which have been rescued. We hope that by focusing upon a few stories, others will become interested in animal rescue and lend their support. This site concentrates on German Shepherd dog rescue. If you are interested in adopting a German Shephered or another dog, please review the many pets in your area using PetFinder, or visit a local shelter today.

Arf's German Shepherd Rescue (AGSR)

Arf's German Shepherd Rescue (AGSR) specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of homeless German Shepherds, mostly acquired from Wisconsin shelters. These dogs have no advocates and are frequently scheduled for euthanasia (even puppies!) because there just aren't enough homes for all the dogs that need homes.

AAFMED (Arf's Angel Fund Medical Assistance) was founded to provide emergency monies to offset expenses incurred in the medical treatment of abandoned and/or injured German Shepherd dogs in need of rescue.

Romeo & Juliet (Adopted 25 Feb. 2008) CCACA

Two German Shepherd which I've nicknamed Romeo and Juliet, will be put down unless homes can be found for them soon.

Save Romeo & Juliet, two beautiful German Shepherds

Notice was received today, Feb. 22, 2008, via email that two German Shepherd dogs were in need of rescue. These two beautiful dogs are being held by the Culbert County Animal Control in Tuscumbia, Alabama. There is one male and one female which I've dubbed Romeo and Juliet. They have been spade and neutered and were previously adopted for 3 months. This adoption did not work as the dogs were allowed to run at large. They do not have microchips and the original owners/breeders are unknown.

I spoke with Officer Price at the Colbert County Animal Control and he said that these two dogs were previously picked up running at large in the city. They were advertised but the owners did not come forward. They were then adopted by someone who let them run at large on his property were they allegedly were aggressive toward livestock. This would imply it would be best to find two separate homes for the two dogs, so they are not together to exhibit this type of pack behavior. Mr. Price said he does not have space for the dogs and needs to find immediate homes for them. He said the dogs may be adopted separately and that the adoption fee is $75.00. He said that he might just be able to give the dogs to a rescue person/group. He can be reached at 1-256-381-4073.

Updates

Feb. 25, 2008. 10:45AM. Email was received from CCACA (Colbert County Animal Control Association) at ccaca@bellsouth.net at 10:45AM on 25 Feb. 2008, stating that their goal is to find, "more stable homes" for Romeo & Juliet. Assurance was given that their goal was to place Romeo & Juliet in a home. They need to place these dogs "ASAP." Please contact CCACA at 256-381-4073 if you would like to adopt these dogs. Thank you.

Feb. 25, 2008 3:30 PM. Notice was received that as of 3:30 PM, 25 Feb. 2008, Romeo and Juliet have been adopted! They were placed for adoption within some 63 hours from the time a video had been placed on YouTube, PSA's sent out to various rescue groups and emails distributed to rescue workers. This demonstrates that YouTube and other Internet resources can be very effective in the rescue of large breed dogs and that this should be one of the methods employed in the future to expedite the adoption of large breed dogs as well as other animals. Congradulations CCACA and everyone else for your efforts and cooperation in helping to find Romeo and Juliet a new home, together where they can be loved and make a contribution to a new family.
