SUBJECT: Decalogue Display Agreement

I would like to propose a solution to the conflict which grips our city, state and nation with regard to Roy's rock. Have the parties on both sides of the issue sign a "Decalogue Display Agreement" which reads:

The undersigned parties agree to permit the display of the Ten Commandments monument in the Law Library of the state Judicial Building.

Such a compromise agreement should be acceptable to both parties. Those who view the Ten Commandments as the foundation of the law would be made happy by having it included in the Law Library among other legal references and displays such as the Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Those who view the Ten Commandments as a religious symbol which should not be in a place of reverence in a state building would be made happy by including it in the Law Library as simply part of a historical display, one of many legal documents upon which civil society is founded.

If the parties on both sides of this issue would be willing to accept this compromise, they would demonstrate an honor and integrity all people could respect. But if they continue to fight it out in the courts, upon the streets, and in the hearts and minds of all who love God and His law, this will only bring shame to our city, state and nation.

Great nations are often founded upon great ideas. Certainly the Ten Commandments is a great idea, whether it came from God or man. There should be nothing wrong with acknowledging that great idea in a law library where all who see it can

Sincerely,
Terry Lynch
