Subject: What is God?

What is God? This may seem like a strange question to ask, but with airplanes flying into buildings, anthrax in the mail and kids being stolen out of their own bedrooms, I think it is quite appropriate.

Obviously something is very wrong with our modern society. Almost everyday the news media reports another suicide bomber somewhere in the world. People are being raped and murdered. Corporate executives are stealing millions of dollars, putting money which is not theirs into their own pockets.

Is not our criminal justice system supposed to prevent crime and provide justice to secure our freedom? In not our Armed Forces supposed to protect us from enemies abroad? Yet not only are we threatened by terrorists, we are threatened by our neighbors who like the terrorists have obviously lost sight of God.

Unfortunately all the armies and all the police forces in the world can not fix what is wrong with modern society. The problem goes deeper and relates to the perception of what is God.

Perhaps this is a question we should be asking of our political leaders, of those running for public office. I certainly would like to know how each candidate would answer the question, "What is God?" In fact, I would like to know how the readers of this newspaper would answer this question.
Therefore I challenge the Advertiser to ask its readers to respond to this question for certainly it is every bit as important as any that has ever been asked.

Maybe someone's answer will save one soul, one heart and prevent one act of violence. Imagine what then would happen if this question were echoed across the land. How many lives could be saved simply by asking "What is God?" and listening to the replies.

Each and every one of us can make our world a better place by sharing our perception of God with our neighbor. Those who wish to share their replies with me may send them to BYTELAND and I will post them upon the Internet.

Sincerely,
Terry Lynch
