OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR BOBBY BRIGHT
Dear Mayor Bright:
How do we know that the next terrorist attack will not be from al Qaeda using mosquito sprayers to release serin gas or anthrax?
If terrorists could use flight schools in America to learn how to fly commercial airplanes, they certainly would have no problem getting a job spraying for mosquitoes and then one night filling the sprayer with toxic chemical and/or biological agents.
What security, if any, do we have to screen applicants for these type of jobs? Can anyone with a Green Card drive a mosquito sprayer? Does the FBI do background checks upon all people who operate municipal spraying equipment?
Perhaps it is not just a coincidence that West Nile virus first appeared in the U.S. in 1999 in New York. Maybe Osama bin Laden brought the virus over by duping one of his blindly obedient followers to stand in a swamp naked over night, then giving him a plane ticket to N.Y.C.
Yes, I'm a bit paranoid. But who isn't these days with daily reports of more people infected with West Nile virus and health officials trying to calm the public by saying you're more likely to get struck by lightening than get West Nile virus.
Quite frankly I've never been struck by lightening but have been bitten by plenty of mosquitoes. I think Montgomery would be a prime target for terrorists to attack using mosquito sprayers, given Maxwell-Gunter AFB is located here. Is anyone doing anything to prevent such an attack?
Sincerely,
Terry Lynch
