The air pollution caused by coal-fired power plants is responsible for thousands of deaths each year. In Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida the Southern Company owns and operates dirty coal-fueled power plants. The soot, smog and toxic fumes from these power plants is slowly killing your kids!

Do you know that when a child is born its lungs contain hundreds of millions of tiny air sacs (alveoli) lined with capillaries that take in oxygen and bond it with hemoglobin in the red blood cells. When you do a bad job of burning coal it spews chemicals into the air which injure the cell walls of the lungs. Year after year of breathing such polluted air injures the lungs resulting is such conditions as bronchitis and asthma.

If you live long enough you may die of lung cancer or congestive heart failure due in large measure to the filthy air you have breathed your whole life from Hell fired coal-fueled plants. It is not a pleasant way to die. My father died that way. No doubt living in Alabama and Georgia for much of his life, breathing the sickening fumes of coal-fired power plants, contributed to his early demise.

The Devil himself could not have devised a more clever way of stealing your health, happiness and life. It is the power companies which have sold their souls to Satan and which are causing you to kill your kids every time you turn on a light.

This does not have to be. It is happening because old coal-fueled power plants have not upgraded to control air pollution and meet modern standards of clean air. So in states like Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida we continue to kill our kids every time we turn on a light. And the big power companies which runs the Hell fire furnaces rake in the profits. Instead of investing them in technology to reduce pollution, millions are spent to advertise a positive image and make you believe they are your best friend. They do not want you to know that every time you turn on a light or run an appliance you are killing you kids.

The sad thing about it is that most people do not even realize what they are doing. They just want to read a book while laying in bed or watch the TV set. How could they possibly know each time they turn the power switch on, it keeps the Hell fire furnaces burning and bellowing soot and smog which is slowly killing themselves and their children?

Perhaps if people realize this simple truth they would conserve electricity. But the real culprit is the Southern Company. That means Alabama Power if you live in the Heart of Dixie. But I'd question whether this company has a heart, given it could have cleaned up its act years ago and has failed to do so, all because it is more profitable to pollute the air burning cheap, dirty coal.

So when your child coughs, wheezes or sniffles remember, it may not be a cold. There is soot and smog in the air bellowing from great smoke stacks which dot the Alabama country side. These fumes contain fine particles which aggravate and exasperate the symptoms of lung disease. These fumes make acid rain and contain toxins like mercury which concentrates in fish and can cause neurological and developmental damage. These fumes increase the level of ozone at ground level and can irritate the lungs and trigger asthma attacks, aggravate emphysema and even impair the immune system. These fumes sicken our children from the cradle to the grave. Yet we go on turning on the light switch not even knowing what is killing us and our kids.

If this bothers you just maybe it is time to slay the bellowing dragon and demand that power companies stop polluting the air! Demand that coal-fueled power plants upgrade and meet modern standards for clean air. Demand that these companies be responsible and liable for all the sickness and deaths they have caused. Demand that they stop bleeding the people and making us kill our own children, not even helping pay the doctor bills or the funeral costs ... not unless, of course, you happen to work for them!
