SUBJECT: Stop the Hell fire carnage of coal-fueled power plants! Make coal-fueled power plant companies liable.

I would like to know why Southern Company will not take immediate action to reduce the amount of poisonous chemicals and contaminants it is spewing into the air? How many people must get sick and die before Southern Company will clean up its act?

The technology exists to sharply reduce air pollution from Hell-fired coal burning power plants. I would think that any company genuinely interested in the health and welfare of its customers would do everything in its power to provide the safest, healthiest product and service. Yet Southern Company has acted like the devil, operating dirty, Hell-fired coal plants into the 21st century, failing to take the initiative to significantly reduce air pollution.

As a result thousands of people continue to die each year from the suffocating and sickening air produced by coal-fueled power plants. Thousands more suffer serious respiratory illness caused by exposure to polluted air. This includes everything from bronchitis and lung cancer to congestive heart failure. When will the Hell fire carnage of coal-fueled power plants end?

The longer Southern Company waits to fix the problem the more it will cost, not only in mega bucks, but in health and lives. There is absolutely no excuse for Southern Company to delay cleaning up the air in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida and other states effected by filthy air which knows no state boundaries.

Well, maybe there is one excuse -- greed! Why should Southern Company spend hundreds of millions of dollars to reduce air pollution when it is perfectly legal for them to operate old, inefficient, soot and smog bellowing plants?

I urge everyone to contact their representatives and ask them to: immediately close all loop holes which permit the Southern Company and Alabama Power to continue poisoning and killing people; require all old coal-fired plants be upgraded to reduce air pollution and meet modern air pollution control standards; support legislation that requires reduction of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, mercury and carbon dioxide; and make said companies liable for all illness, injury and death to which they have contributed in the last 50 years!

Sincerely,
Terry Lynch
