Proposal for Animal Rescue & Sanctuary Guyana

Objective

The Guyana Animal Rescue Society proposes to establish and operate an animal shelter which has as its goal building a facility that may provide the rescue of stray dogs and cats, veterinary care and rehibilitation where possible, adoption as may be fesible, and a sanctuary for abused or neglected animals, including but not limited to, working animals, mules, donkies, cows, goats, or other large (dray) animals.

Problem

There are an enormous number of stray dogs and cats running at large in the city of Georgetown and other municipalities. These homeless animals present a variety of problems which includes transfer of diseases such as rabies and other pathogens, including such parasites as worms and fleas which may serve as vectors for diseases which can be transmitted to humans. Also homeless animals may become vicious and therefore resent a danger to humans and the communities which they inhabit. Plus there are health hazards created when wondering packs of dogs may pilfer through garbage and contaminate areas with feces and urine which in turn reeds flies which are vectors for disease. Areas without large numbers of homeless animals also brings down poperty values. Collectively these problems demonstrate the clear need for an animal rescue, shelter and sanctuary.

Purpose

Our long term objective is to significantly reduce the number of homeless animals in those communities served providing both animals and humans with a better quality of life and higherstandard of living.

Benefits

Significantly reducing the number of homeless animals through rescue, spay, neuter and adoption programs will greatly improve the health of the community to make all areas better places to live and work. Through enlisting the help of volunteers we will provide educational opportunities as well as reduce operating costs and provide relief to all communities served from the risks associated with enormous numbers of homeless animals. Plus our work will remove this burden from the communities and government agencies.

Funding

All sources of funding will be sought including: membership fees, donations, and grants; conduct of fund raising events; receipt of valued services; application of volunteer labor; individual, business, corporate, or benefactor sponsorship; marketing of animal rescue gifts and apparel, donation of material, equipment, and supplies; cooperative work with other animal rescue organizations, utilizing professional fund raisers, and any other funding method that is practical.

Location
