NPS Gettysburg Official Home page and Gettysburg National Military Park. The Battle of Gettysburg was a critical event in determining the future of our nation. Known as a turning point in our great Civil War, the battlefield is preserved by the National Park Service as a symbol of America's struggle to survive as a nation, and as a lasting memorial to the soldiers who served in that great conflict. Our job is to preserve the park and to provide you, the park visitor, with a fulfilling experience.

Don't forget to take a Virtual tour of Gettysburg. This site has an excellent virtual auto tour which recounts each day of the battle with maps, pictures, diary accounds and a historical review. Be sure to visit the The Soldier's National Cemetery. The Soldier's National Cemetery was established in 1863 and was the setting for President Abraham Lincoln's most well known speech, the Gettysburg Address (also see Nicolay's copy. History buffs interested in old photographs may want to view the only known photographs of Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg.

While conducting your vitural tour of Gettysburg don't miss the story about John Burns a true American patriot of both the war of 1812 and Gettysburg. Before leaving visit Camp Life: Civil War Collections from Gettysburg. Presented by the NPS this exhibit showcases some of the items that were made or used by soldiers in Union and Confederate camps. Many of the activities shown here helped soldiers cope with daily life.

Gettysburg Cyclorama The Gettysburg Cyclorama is a circular oil on canvas painting which portrays the fury of the final Confederate assault on July 3, 1863, commonly referred to as Pickett's Charge.
